The Memorial Day weekend got off to a tragic start when a person drowned in the waters of Toledo Bend Reservoir. It happened at about 8:30 Friday evening near Carrice Creek in the Sabinetown Community, about 8 miles east of Hemphill. Information from Texas Parks & Wildlife officials indicate that the victim was swimming when he went under water, but never resurfaced. Game wardens used sonar to locate his body, which was found in water that was six feet deep. Sabine County Sheriff Tom Maddox has identified the victim as 45-year-old Roberto Resendiz-Flores, of Dallas.
