About 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2020, a motorist driving South on U.S. Highway 171 near the Hawthorne Road intersection North of Leesville, LA, crossed the median into the Northbound traffic.
The motorist struck a Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office deputy head on after narrowly missing another vehicle.
The motorists vehicle began to flip before catching on fire.
Both the motorist and the Deputy were able to escape the wreckage with minor injuries – both were transported to a local medical facility for treatment.
The accident is being investigated by the Louisiana State Police.
