Driver slams into funeral procession in Polk County

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

Most drivers move over and stop for a funeral procession as a sign of respect - but that wasn't the case in Polk County on Tuesday afternoon. Anthony Gregory, 29, of Alto, plowed right into one. PolkCountyToday.com is reporting from a Texas Department of Public Safety report that the funeral procession was eastbound on Highway 190 about 8 miles east of Livingston, while Gregory was westbound in a 2008 Ford SUV. Troopers say Gregory was traveling at a high rate of speed when he topped a hill, nearly hitting the back of another vehicle. Troopers say he then went into the opposite lane, heading head-on towards the funeral procession before he lost control and slid into a 2011 Honda Accord driven by one of the mourners, Nathan Beavers, 19, of Livingston., Gregory was transported by ambulance to Livingston Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while Beavers was not hurt.
