Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark said Wednesday that a positive identification had still not been made on a driver who died in a fiery Tuesday afternoon accident. It happened at about 4:00 in extreme northwest Jasper County in the Rockland Community. Emergency crews responded to U.S. Highway 69 at County Road 008 and found a Ford F-150 pickup truck completely engulfed in flames and the driver still inside. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Sergeant Clark, a northbound 18-wheeler had stopped due to construction when it was hit from behind by the pickup truck, when then went just off the highway and caught on fire.
