Driver charged after Monday afternoon pursuit

Jasper Police Chief Garrett Foster said Tuesday that the male driver involved in a Monday afternoon pursuit has been charged, while the female passenger was released with no charges filed.

It began at about 3:00 when an officer, who is also a member of the Southeast Texas Violent Crime Task Force, saw 28-year-old Kenneth Mitchell Woods, of Magnolia Springs, driving a car and the officer knew that Woods had a parole violation warrant after serving prison time on an original charge of Assault on a Peace Officer.

Woods began fleeing and the chase ended on Farm to Market Road 2800 just west of North Main Street.

Woods was taken into custody and he has been charged with the following crimes:

Parole Violation

Evading Arrest

Reckless Driving

Striking Fixture/Highway Landscape (2 counts)

No Drivers License

Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
