The Texas Department of Public Safety says a driver has been arrested for his latest alleged DWI after he ran a car off of a highway very early Monday morning.
It happened shortly after 4:00 on State Highway 63 West near County Road 019, just over a mile northwest of Recreational Road 255.
Angelina River Fire & First Responders were sent to the scene when it was reported to be an accident with possible injuries. However, DPS Sergeant Shana Clark said the driver, 35-year-old Abel Mejia, of Tyler, was not injured, but instead was intoxicated.
Clark said Mejia was driving a 2004 Mercury passenger car westbound when he went off the highway and stopped at the tree line, and the first emergency personnel on the scene reported that he was unconscious in the car.
According to Clark, Mejia was arrested on felony charges of Driving While Intoxicated-3rd or More, and also Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
