The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating after a pickup truck was found wrecked and abandoned at about 8:00 Sunday morning.
The truck had been traveling westbound on Farm to Market Road 2800, but when the highway ended and it split into County Road 89 and 96, the driver went straight and crashed through small trees and the truck stopped in a swampy area. Tire tracks in the mud showed no sign of the driver having ever applied the brakes.
Jasper firefighters waded through knee-deep water and opened the door to find on one inside, but they said there was an overwhelming smell of marijuana in the truck.
At last word a state trooper was working to find the owner or driver of the truck.
