As the search continues for the man who shot a Jacksonville police officer on Sunday afternoon, police there have released details of what happened.
In a Tuesday press conference, Chief Steven Makasky said the female officer saw 64-year-old Bobby Michael Dennis outside a house and she knew that he had warrants. Makasky said the officer stopped and got out of her patrol vehicle and Dennis ran behind the house. He said Dennis then came back around with a rifle and began firing shots, so the officer took cover behind her patrol vehicle.
Bullets struck the patrol vehicle and one of them hit a K-9 inside the vehicle.
Chief Makasky said the officer began running to take cover behind a house and Dennis shot her in her upper arm. She fell, but got back up and ran for a wooded area and Dennis then shot her in her leg.
He then fled in a gray 2012 GMC Sierra pickup truck with Texas license plate TRW3919.
The officer was flown by medical helicopter to a Tyler hospital where she underwent surgery and is now recovering.
A $10,000.00 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of Dennis. If you see him or his truck, contact your local law enforcement agency immediately.
