A deputy with the Jasper County Sheriff's Department was taken by ambulance to the Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital shortly after 10:00 on Sunday evening after the patrol car he was driving collided with a pick-up truck at the intersection of US Highways 190 and 96 here in jasper. A witness at the scene said the driver of the pick-up truck was not injured. However, the names of the drivers have not been released at this time. What happened is not known. However, the Chief Deputy of the Jasper County Sheriff's Department, Scotty Duncan, who was on the scene only a few minutes after the crash had occurred said *I don't have the full details at this time. I just got here, but from what I'm getting is that the officer saw a vehicle commit a traffic violation and went after him. It's unknown if the vehicle the officer pursued was caught or identified. Officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating the accident as they try to determine the cause of the crash. The volunteers of the Jasper Fire Department were dispatched to the scene to stand by in case of fire and assist with blocking the roadway until the wreckage could be cleared.
