DeBourgeois remains at-large after accidentally freed by Jefferson County Jail

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department says 24-year-old Justin DeBourgeois remains at-large after the convicted felon was somehow accidentally released by the Jefferson County Jail. DeBourgeois was convicted in April here in Jasper County and sentenced to 13 years in prison for his part in the July 30th, 2021 robbery and shooting of Cecil Brown on Suncrest Circle. The other defendant in that case was James Castille, 23, also of Jasper. DeBourgeois was transferred to the Jefferson County Jail in late April because he was to answer to felony charges there. However, despite a Texas Department of Criminal Justice hold being placed on him for his prison sentence, the Jefferson County Jail inexplicably set him free on June 15th, and he’s been on the run ever since.
