TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Cumberland Academy Schools Superintendent Charles Pulliam announced Tuesday night that the high school will be closed on Wednesday. The closure is due to an underground gas leak detected by CenterPoint Energy, Pulliam said in a statement. The leak is in or near the campus. He said CPE assured them it was safe to continue school operations, but out of an abundance of caution, in collaboration with the City of Tyler they have decided to close the high school on Wednesday to allow for further inspection and to ensure all necessary repairs and safety checks are completed thoroughly. The closure is only for the high school. All other Cumberland Academy campuses will remain open and operate on their regular schedules, the statement said. They plan to open on Thursday as normal, however, Pulliam said if there are any changes to that timeline, they will notify parents as soon as possible via email, school website, and social media channels. During the closure, they will forward high school phone lines to the middle school campus. Please call 903-385-3558 if you need assistance.
