Convicted sex offender jailed again on charges related to a sexual crime

A convicted sex offender has been jailed again on charges related to a sexual crime. The San Augustine County Sheriff's Department says that 50-year-old William Daniel Clifford, who has addresses in Spurger and Bronson, was arrested late last week on charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Disabled Individual, Injury to a Disabled Individual, Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, and Capias Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. Clifford was convicted in 2004 on a charge of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, with the victim being listed as a 13-year-old girl. He was sentenced to nine years in prison on that charge, but he was paroled early. Following his early release from prison, Clifford failed to register as a sex offender, resulting in him being placed on the Texas Department of Public Safety Most Wanted Sex Offenders List in 2019. He was captured in December of 2O21 by the U.S. Marshals Service, and then released on bond. In August of 2O22, Clifford was arrested on Sabine County charges of Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registry, Burglary of a Vehicle, and Theft of Property. He was out of jail under a $50,000.00 bond when his latest arrest occurred in San Augustine County.
