A chase involving a motorcycle that begin here in Jasper in the early hours of Saturday morning ended with the vehicle crashing in north Newton County.
Jasper Police Chief Garrett Foster said the series of events began around 3:00, when officer Daniel Coons, who was on routine patrol, clocked a motorcycle traveling through Jasper at speeds of over 120 miles per hour.
Coons immediately turned on his lights and attempted to stop the motorcycle. However, the driver ignored all demands and continued north on Highway 96, before turning and heading east on Recreational Road 255.
The motorcyclist continued with Officer Coons in pursuit in the chase, which ended up spanning over 24 miles, before the motorcycle crashed out.
The driver of the bike, James Allen Beck, 43 of Jasper was treated at the scene and then taken to the Jasper County Jail, where later appeared before a judge and was officially charged with Evading Arrest, Wreckless Driving, and Possession of controlled substance.
Bond on Beck was set at a total of $82,000 and at last word, he was still being held at the Jasper County Jail.
