Charges have been filed and bond has been set on a Jasper County resident in a Sabine County criminal case. Joseph Smith, 18, of Brookeland, was accused last week of stealing a Jeep, a 4-wheeler, and a power saw from a residence just inside the Sabine County line.
The items were later recovered, and Smith was arrested a few days later by Jasper County deputies who had to crawl underneath a mobile home where he was trying to hide and they had to drag him out.
According to Sabine County Jail records, Smith has been charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, two counts of Theft of Property, and Violation of Probation. His combined total bond is $30,000.00, and at last word he remained behind bars.
