LUMBERTON — A Lumberton coffee shop suffered major damage after a driver crashed into and through the business, coming to a stop near the counter of the shop that was filled with customers.
Amazingly, no customers or staff members of Good Grounds Coffee + Cafe, 769 South Main Street in Lumberton, were hit in the crash at about 10:30 this morning.
One customer suffered cuts to his arm and the elderly female driver was taken by ambulance to be checked out at a hospital but appeared to be okay.
Police Chief Danny Sullins was on scene with other officers seconds after the crash was reported at the coffee shop.
The Toyota Camry crashed through the business before coming to a stop in the back of the coffee shop near the counter, knocking over chairs and furniture and leaving a trail of glass and bricks on the floor.
Lumberton police are investigating what caused the driver to crash into and through the coffee shop.
One woman posted that 30 minutes before the crash, she and her children were sitting in chairs that were knocked to the ground by the car.
"Guardian Angels at work," others posted. Pastor Nathan Keating and some parishioners from Parkway Life Church were enjoying coffee and visiting inside at the time of the crash.
A wrecker later pulled the Camry out of the business while the owner and staff cleaned up and started the process of repairing the damage.
The owner told us the business will be closed for a few days but he hopes to open the drive-thru on Friday.
