One of the suspects from two recent attempted burglaries of a bank ATM in Burkeville was captured Friday morning, and the truck that he’s accused of stealing to make his getaway was also recovered. The crimes occurred during the early morning hours of Monday, April 26th and Sunday, May 2nd at Sabine State Bank on State Highway 63.
Following the first incident, deputies were able to track down and arrest 38-year-old Billy Dewayne Adams. He is still in the Newton County Jail under a $75,000.00 bond.
However, Sheriff Robert Burby said the other suspect, Leo Burt Mitchell, 40, stole a dark gray 2017 Ford F-150 pickup truck from a nearby residence and had been on the run ever since.
That changed at about 8:00 Friday morning in Mansfield, Louisiana, some 70 miles north of Burkeville in DeSoto Parish. Burby said law enforcement officers there found the stolen truck and also Mitchell. He, along with a female with him, were both arrested.
Burby also noted that officers found in the bed of the pickup some 20-30 oil well batteries which they believe are stolen.
