LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Louisiana State Police have identified the man who was shot by a Calcasieu Parish deputy over the weekend in Sulphur.
According to Trooper Roy Jones of LSP, the suspect is identified as Laudrick Pate, 29, of Lake Charles.
Around 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 15, a CPSO deputy pulled over a vehicle near U.S. 90 and Willow Avenue, Jones said. Pate, who was the front passenger, ran away during the stop.
After a brief chase, a deputy tried to detain Pate, and Pate managed to take control of the deputy’s taser and tase them, Jones said. The deputy then shot Pate.
Pate was taken into custody, received medical aid, and was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to Jones. The deputy who was tased suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene.
