LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A Calcasieu Parish deputy was arrested on a domestic abuse charge and fired.
Elliott Phillips was hospitalized for a mental health evaluation after a domestic disturbance at a Westlake home on June 29, according to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office. Phillips, who had been a deputy for nearly 13 years, was placed on administrative leave.
After further investigation, deputies arrested Phillips today on a charge of domestic abuse battery. He was released on a $5,000 bond set by Judge Hope Buford.
“Complaints of domestic abuse are serious allegations, and our deputies will always be held accountable for their actions,” Sheriff Stitch Guillory said. “At the time of the complaint Phillips was transported to a local hospital. After he was released, there was no reason to believe any further threat of abuse would occur; giving detectives time to conduct a thorough investigation.”
