Burn bans have now been activated in Newton and Tyler Counties as very dry conditions continue across the region, and unfortunately there is no prediction of rain anytime soon. Burn bans are also in effect in Jefferson, Orange, and Hardin Counties. The Keetch-Byrum Drought Index has a maximum number of 800 for severe drought and high wildfire danger, and despite Jasper County having the highest level of drought in this area, there is no burn ban in place here.
The following numbers are the average for our area as of Sun, Oct 13th:
Jasper Co – 648
Newton Co – 639
Sabine Co – 598
San Augustine Co – 645
Angelina Co – 628
Tyler Co – 644
