A burn ban remains in effect in Jasper County and burn ban violations continue. The latest occurred late Thursday afternoon in the Curtis Community, about 3 miles northwest of Jasper. The Beech Grove Fire Department and a Jasper County Deputy were sent to the intersection of Highway 63 West at Farm to Market Road 777 shortly after 4:00 when it was reported that flames and smoke were seen behind a church. They arrived and reported that it was actually at a house next to the church where a resident was burning a very large pile of trash and debris. A burn ban violation in Texas is a Class C Misdemeanor and can garner a fine up to $500.00. In Jasper County, the sheriff’s department has a policy of arresting repeat offenders.
