BURN BAN NOW IN EFFECT IN NEWTON COUNTY

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

After reviewing current conditions and forecasts for the upcoming days, officials in nearby Newton County have ordered a ban on all outdoor burning.

The measure comes following several brush and woods fires in recent days and the current level of fire danger.

The Keetch-Bryrum Drought Index commonly known as the "KBDI" now stands at 600 to 700 in most all of the part of Newton County out of a possible maximum of 800, except for the northwest corner of the county where the level is now being measured at 700 to 800.

The order mandates that all outside burning be stopped at once.

Orders prohibiting outside burning already in place in nearby Tyler and Angelina Counties.
