The Burkeville Independent School District has announced that as an added safety and security measure, the district will require students in the 6th through 12th grades to carry only clear backpacks.
However, the district says that it will purchase and provide the backpacks to those students free of charge in the upcoming school year.
Meanwhile, other school districts have been beefing up security measures, such as Jasper ISD requesting two additional school resource officers from the City of Jasper, which would double the number of officers patrolling the four school campuses within the district.
