A piece of furniture that had apparently fallen off of a vehicle on Interstate 10 in nearby Orange County is being blamed for the death of a Buna man.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said John Franklin Martin was headed east near Rose City, just east of Beaumont, shortly before 11:00 on Friday evening on his Harley Davidson motorcycle when he struck a couch that was in the roadway.
Martin, who according to the DPS was not wearing a helmet was thrown from the motorcycle and received serious injuries.
The 42 year old man was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont where he died a short time later.
