A man who was said to already be accused of assaulting a security officer is now accused of threatening a deputy sheriff.
Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard said Monday that upon learning that Justin Elton Key, 40, a man was already wanted on outstanding warrants was in the Brookeland Area, officer Bryan Gray went to the 300 block of Brenda Street, where he found and arrested Key and took into custody. However, Havard said that at that point, Key reportedly threatened Gray and told the deputy that he would kill him.
Havard said that at the time of the arrest of Key a man who was already charged with Failure to Appear in Court in connection with a previous charge of Assault of a Security Officer.
Sheriff Havard said Key was taken into custody and trasnported to the Jasper County Jail where they would be asking that he be charged with Obstruction or Retaliation.
Havard said, "When you threaten to harm our employees for just doing their job, we'll bring the smoke to you every time. This is another individual that can't seem to stay out of this jail. He has been a nuisance to our county for many years, and hopefully he will stay here for a while."
Havard said, "He is innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law."
