Boy hailed as hero after saving drowning child's life in Lake Sam Rayburn

A boy is being hailed as a hero after he saved the life of another child who was drowning in Lake Sam Rayburn over the Memorial Day weekend. The staff of Jackson Hill Marina in the Broaddus area say that 11-year-old Ronnie Mundy was swimming with an inflatable shark when he heard the other child calling out for help. Staff members say several people were on shore and witnessed the child in trouble, but only Mundy was close enough to help. Witnesses said that Mundy reached the struggling child just as he was going under and was able to hold his head above water. Then with the help of another person who swam to them, they managed to get the child onto the inflatable and came to shore. A staff member wrote on the Jackson Hill Marina Facebook page, “We all want to thank Hunter for his fast response and give him all of the shaved Ice he can eat.”
