Beaumont police are beginning a death investigation after a worker with the Lower Neches Valley Authority discovered a body in a canal. Police and Beaumont firefighters responded to the call at about 1:45 p.m. Friday in the 4500 block of North Major Drive, not far from Highway 105. The LNVA employee showed officers and firefighters where he spotted the body floating in the canal. Firefighters were able to bring the body to the northern canal bank. First responders say the body is that of an unknown male. Justice of the Peace Ben Collins Sr. has ordered an autopsy.
