Bodies of all four drowning victims now recovered from Sabine River

The bodies of all four drowning victims have now been recovered from the Sabine River. The last body, a 4-year-old boy, was recovered at about 8:30 Monday morning according to the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Department. The drownings occurred Friday at a boat ramp on the river northwest of Merryville. Beauregard Parish Sheriff Sheriff Mark Herford said it’s a popular spot for swimming, but he noted that the current there can be treacherous. KVVP News in Leesville is reporting that sources told them that the child was in the water at the boat ramp when he was swept away by the current. Three adults, Troy M. McCollough, of the Junction community, Kelly Bailey, of Hornbeck, and Austin Scott, of DeRidder, all went in the water in an attempt to rescue the child, but all four drowned. The bodies of the three adults were recovered over the weekend.
