Beech Grove VFD Chaplain and wife involved in Dam B Bridge crash

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

Beech Grove Fire Department Chaplain Wayne Barber, 78, and his wife, Ann, 76, were involved in an early Sunday morning crash on the Highway 190 Dam B Bridge. It happened at about 4:00, just across the Neches River on the Tyler County side.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark said the couple was traveling eastbound in their 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck and pulling a utility trailer when they were met by a westbound vehicle. Clark said the headlights of the oncoming vehicle blinded Mr. Barber, which caused him to take evasive action to the right where the truck hit the guardrail and then crossed over the opposing lane and struck the other guardrail, resulting in the truck and trailer jack-knifing.

Fortunately, the couple was uninjured, and Sergeant Clark said neither the other driver or vehicle has not been located.

The Beech Grove Fire Department was dispatched to the scene to assist with traffic control.
