Detectives with the Jasper Police Department, along with the Texas Rangers are waiting for the results of an autopsy that was recently performed on an inmate who was found dead in a jail cell.
Jasper Police Chief Gerald Hall said Wednesday that he and others were waiting on the results as they try to determine what caused the death of 28-year-old Steven Mitchell Qualls, of Colmesneil. Officers say they discovered that Qualls was dead on the morning of Wednesday, January 30th.
Police said Qualls’ body was found in the detoxification cell, where he had been placed after his arrest on the evening of Monday, January 28th at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital.
Hall said the details or results of the autopsy have not been released, pending completion of toxicology tests.
