An all-terrain-vehicle operator fled from and managed to allude a state trooper and Jasper County deputies on Thursday afternoon.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Stephanie Davis, a trooper tried to pull over a man driving a Can-Am brand ATV on Highway 96 in Buna shortly after 2:00, but the man refused to stop and began fleeing from the trooper, turning onto State Highway 62, and he then ended up on County Road 731.
Davis said the man stopped the ATV and then fled on foot down a high-line and into a wooded area.
Jasper County deputies responded to assist the trooper, but Davis said due to the terrain and in the interest of officer safety, they didn’t pursue him into the wooded area.
At last word the trooper and deputies were working to confirm the identity of the man, and the ATV was towed by a local wrecker company.
