Residents in portions of northern Newton County are frustrated after being without AT&T landline telephone service since Thursday, April 20th. One of those residents is McKinley Richards and he told KJAS News on Wednesday that phone lines are down in the communities of Shankleville, Jamestown, Shortville, and portions of Burkeville. According to Richards, he has spoken to AT&T service representatives and they're telling him that an underground main line is the problem. Although they assured him that they're working to fix the problem, he says that they couldn't give him an estimate on when service may be restored. Meanwhile, Richards and many other residents in that area are currently depending upon cell phones for communication.
