Air Tractors return to the area

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

The Air Tractors are back. With their big loud turbine engines and 5-blade propellers, they fly low and fast and always draw a lot of attention, and especially curiosity from those who aren't familiar with their purpose. The aircraft began arriving on Wednesday in Jasper, and on Thursday they were operating out of the Newton airport. During their stay in this area, they typically operate out of the airports in Jasper, Newton, Pineland, and Woodville. Commonly known as a "crop duster", the planes can carry and distribute 400 to 800 gallons of fertilizer, seeds, pesticides, herbicides, and even water for firefighting purposes. Here in Deep East Texas, their primary purpose is working for the timber industry.
