Again, Again, and Again... Thieves Hit ATM in Burkeville

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby says the ATM at Sabine State Bank in Burkeville has been damaged in another attempted theft. Burby says the latest incident occurred at about 5:30 Sunday morning.

Burby said deputies responded to a report of an alarm at the bank, located on Highway 63, and arrived to find the suspects already gone and the ATM heavily damaged. However, the sheriff said the suspects were unable to get any cash out of it.

Burby said a short time later a 2001 Ford F-250 pickup truck, which was reported stolen in Harris County, was found abandoned in Newton on Highway 87, just south of the Highway 87 and 190 intersection. Burby said the engine was running, but there was no key in the ignition, indicating that it had been hot-wired.

Burby said it’s possible that the truck was involved in the crime in Burkeville.
