A man accused of shooting at officers captured following attempted escape in Orange

An inmate at the Orange County Jail tried to make an escape and was hiding in the ceiling above the correctional facility for nearly an hour. According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, inmate Chadwick Alan McMillen, 35, had climbed through the chapel ceiling just before 3 p.m. today at the jail on Border Street. McMillen first made headlines when he was arrested and accused of firing at officers during a pursuit. "Correctional staff officers quickly placed the jail on lockdown and contacted both Orange County Sheriff's Office staff and any available units from the City of Orange Police and Fire Departments. Inmate McMillen was located at 3:46pm hiding above the ceiling area of the correctional facility," a news release said. McMillen had been an inmate at the Orange County Jail since January 4 on several felony charges, including aggravated assault on a public servant, theft, possession of a firearm by a felon, car, unauthorized use of a vehicle, burglary of a building, evading arrest and criminal mischief. His bond was set at $1,000,000 for the incident on January 3 that involved a carjacking from Frey's Nursery and then a chase in which authorities said McMillen fired a weapon at them.
