A well known, long time resident of Jasper, died on Thursday afternoon, when the vehicle she was driving, rear ended an eighteen wheeled tractor trailer truck on the west side of town.
Police, firemen and other emergency crews were dispatched to the intersection of Highways 190 and 63 west, shortly after 1:00, when it was reported that the accident occurred.
A final report has not been released, but officers said the accident occurred when a 2019 GMC sport utility vehicle driven by Louise Carter, 62, of Jasper, rammed into the rear of a trailer, which was being pulled by a 2015 Peterbilt semi rig which was owned and operated by Emby and Co. of Broaddus, Texas.
Carter was pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Mike Smith. The driver of the truck, Samuel Joe Johnson, 46, of Broaddus was taken to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for what was said to be minor injuries.
What caused Carter to crash into the rear of the truck is still unknown and officers are still investigating the incident.
The accident occurred in front of Lowe's Home Improvement Center.
Carter, who was affectionately known by her family and friends as "Weezey" had worked in the banking industry in Jasper for many years.
