TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - The Wood County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) said its deputies and federal agencies arrested eight people Tuesday as part of a multi-agency methamphetamine and firearms investigation.
The sheriff’s office said it had been gathering evidence about several locations in neighboring counties that were selling large amounts of meth to lower-level drug dealers in Wood County.
After investigating for several months alongside the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), WCSO said the cooperation led to federal indictments of multiple high-level drug dealers from surrounding counties and large quantity dealers from metropolitan areas.
The warrants charge the individuals with several offenses, including conspiracy to distribute narcotics, possession and distribution of narcotics, and being a felon in possession of a firearm while distributing narcotics.
The joint operation also led to the seizure of several kilograms of meth, firearms, cash and vehicles, among other items, the sheriff’s office said.
During the investigation, law enforcement also uncovered information about a man who attempted to ambush a Wood County patrol officer and a DPS trooper, the sheriff’s office said.
WCSO said its deputies arrested the man and are working on obtaining warrants to charge him with two counts of attempted capital murder.
Each individual was remanded into federal custody pending prosecution and has yet to be identified.
