NATCHITOCHES, La. (KALB) - A Provencal man was arrested on felony drug charges following a vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 117 on Nov. 3, according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.

At 5:57 a.m. that day, Provencal Police and NPSO responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 1700 block of La. Hwy 117. A vehicle had left the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle’s only occupant was found passed out inside. The vehicle appeared to have sustained only minor to moderate damage.

The driver, identified as Corey K. Slaughter, 35, of Provencal, was woken up, and deputies say that while speaking with him, they saw a firearm and suspected narcotics in plain sight inside the vehicle.

A search led to the seizure of a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun, suspected meth, another white powdery substance, 23 suspected ecstasy tablets and drug paraphernalia.

Slaughter was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center, where he was booked and charged with:

  • Possession of ecstasy
  • Possession of meth
  • Illegal carrying of a firearm in the presence of controlled dangerous substances
  • Careless operation of a vehicle
  • Driving under suspension

Additional traffic charges are pending, and the investigation remains ongoing.
