SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - Two people have been arrested after allegedly attempting to steal from parked cars in Smith County.
Ardie Lee Rabon, 25, and Trea Kaepone Scott, 25, both of Whitehouse, were arrested following an investigation by law enforcement into attempted auto burglary.
According to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived early Wednesday morning at the 1100 block of Bird Point Trail, south of Tyler, after a homeowner reported two people trying to steal from cars in his driveway.
Witnesses say the two suspects were attempting to open the doors of parked cars in the area before a homeowner confronted the pair and they ran off.
Using video provided by the homeowner, deputies were able to determined the suspects fled westbound on Bearwood Lane and, with the assistance of the Whitehouse Police Department, they set up a perimeter in the area.
Shortly after, sheriff’s deputies and a police officer found one of the suspects near the entrance of a neighborhood off of FM 346 and the second suspect was found hiding in a drainage culvert near the roadway. Both men were taken into custody.
A maroon pickup truck was also identified as being used by the suspects and was also towed from the scene.
Both Rabon and Scott were booked into the Smith County Jail.
Rabon and Scott were each charged with three counts of attempted burglary of a motor vehicle for a combined bond of $1,500.
