SHREVEPORT, La. - The May 7 deadline to get a real ID is quickly approaching.
You only have about eight weeks left if you want to get a real ID, and you will need Real ID if you want to take a flight anywhere in the U.S. or enter certain federal buildings.
Real ID is a form of identification that meets federal standards for security. Passports and Department of Defense ID's also qualify as a Real ID.
It costs around $32, which is the cost of a driver's license. You can get one at all Louisiana, OMV locations and their satellites offices.
And this weekend, a special opportunity for those that live in the Shreveport area.
"Our Shreveport office will be open this Saturday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. for residents in the area who want to come in and get Real ID compliant. You can book an appointment at expresslane.org and we are also taking walk-in's as well. We want to help those in the community who are unable to get there during the week to show up on Saturday and get Real ID ready," said Matt Boudreaux, public information officer for the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles.
If you can't make it Saturday, the office will be open on April 12 and May 3 at the same location in Shreveport at 6005 Financial Plaza.
