West Sabine ISD near completion for new learning center

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - West Sabine ISD is getting the finishing touches done on a building to serve students and the community. “We really wanted to kind of revitalize our community, “said Superintendent Carnelius Gilder. The former Sabine Area Career Center will now be the Leadership and Community Development Center. “A home here in West Sabine Texas for our regional amenities,” said Gilder. The district began remodeling in early spring. “It’s really trying to utilize district resources to serve the community and grow the community,” he said. The $700,000 renovation was paid for with grants and the district’s allocated project and private funding. The center will house administrative offices, a community computer lab and board meeting room, and two large classroom spaces “These are very minimal pieces that we did really just to shine the place up and make it reputable,” said Gilder. He said the goal is to unite students and community members and partners to work and grow together. “We can come together where education, and workforce, and economics can all live in the same place and make east texas, that place.” A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Aug. 6 at 11 a.m. The district plans to open the building late this year.
