LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Authorities were called to a pursuit involving a suspected drunken driver that led to a crash in Lufkin early Sunday. According to City of Lufkin Communications Director Jessica Pebsworth, dispatch was notified at about 2:12 a.m. by another agency that their pursuit of an intoxicated driver was entering Lufkin city limits on Frank Avenue. The driver reportedly lost control and struck a tree in the 1100 block of Mantooth Avenue, separately from Lufkin police involvement, Pebsworth said. Lufkin Fire responded and took both the driver and a passenger to a hospital for treatment. Pebsworth said their conditions are unknown at this time.
