VERNON PARISH, La. (KALB) - Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of two people on January 9, connected to the theft of two school buses.
The two buses were reportedly stolen from schools in Vernon Parish. Deputies later learned of a similar situation in Newton, Texas where a school bus was recently stolen from a school and later recovered in Merryville.
During their investigation, VPSO Deputies traveled to Newton Texas, where Newton County officials were able to provide surveillance footage and pictures of a suspect committing stealing a school bus.
Investigators from Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office, VPSO, Fort Polk CID and Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office later conducted a search at a home in Mittie, where they recovered one of the stolen school buses and arrested the following two people:
Cody Parker, 39, of Mittie was arrested, booked into the Allen Parish Jail and charged with possession of stolen goods and resisting an officer.
Shadow Hamilton, 25, of Mittie was also arrested, booked into the Allen Parish Jail and charged with possession of stolen goods and resisting an officer.
According to VPSO, detainers for Louisiana Department of Probation and Parole were placed on both men.
This investigation remains ongoing with additional arrests expected.
