LONGVIEW , Texas (KLTV) - Most East Texas cities have ordinances against shooting off fireworks within their limits. But some residents fired them off anyway and others even participated in celebratory gunfire which is also illegal within city limits. New Year's Eve in Longview was a lot louder than it was supposed to be. Longview Assistant Fire Marshal Bert Scott says law enforcement had a very busy night although Scott was not on duty on New Year's Eve. "In previous years I've worked it's not just one certain part of town. It's all over town: north, south, east and west and the middle area. It's pretty much widespread," Scott said. One fire marshal was on duty and with over 170 calls for fireworks or gunfire in a 24-hour period, response time from law enforcement was slowed down.
