13-year-old girl dies when stolen car crashes into Beaumont overpass

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

Beaumont police say a 13-year-old girl was killed when a car that had been reported stolen in the early hours of Sunday morning crashed into a large concrete pillar at the intersection of Interstate io and Major Drive, not far from Ford Park. Police say four other people were in the car when the crash occurred shortly before 4:00, and that two of occupants were injured and the other two ran. Officers say the 2023 Hyundai Elantra was stolen from a home in Nederland, but was later spotted in Beaumont and officers were in the process of chasing it when the driver apparently lost control and struck the pillar. Officers soon located the suspects fleeing the scene in the stolen vehicle and the chase was on until the driver of the vehicle lost control and struck the pillar. The young girl was pronounced dead by Jefferson County Justice of the Peace Ben Collins, Sr. and at last word officers were still looking for the two people that ran.
