10 trash receptacles to be placed in high traffic areas around NSU

NATCHITOCHES — Northwestern State University and Keep Louisiana Beautiful have developed a memorandum of understanding through which KLB will provide 10 trash receptacles to be placed in high traffic and high pedestrian areas around campus. The trash receptacles, which will be marked with "Let Louisiana Shine" signs, will be installed at the crosswalk behind Iberville Dining Hall and University Place 1; a greenspace along Chaplin's Lake near Prather Coliseum; entrances to the NSU Tennis Complex, the NSU Soccer Complex and the NSU Softball Complex; the intramural field near the NSU Elementary Lab School; the NSU Alumni Plaza; a picnic area near A.A. Fredericks Auditorium; a walkway across Sam Sibley Drive near Kyser Hall; a walkway along Demon Drive that connects the large commuter parking lot with residence halls, and the Health and Human Performance Building. "We intend to raise public awareness of litter prevention and track the effectiveness the receptacles have on reducing litter on our campus," said Steve Gruesbeck, NSU's director of Service-Learning, who coordinated the grant with KLB. "NSU has benefitted from previous partnership with Keep Louisiana Beautiful and we feel these additional receptacles will have an impact on reducing litter in our community."
