1 Dead, 4 Injured in Wreck that Temporarily Shut Down I-10 Westbound in Rose City

 The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal two-vehicle wreck that temporarily shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 in Rose City.

It happened on Wednesday around 2 p.m. at mile marker 857. A preliminary investigation suggests that a 2010 Chrysler passenger car was traveling west in the outside lanes for an unknown reason, according to a DPS release.

A 2016 Chrysler passenger car failed to control its speed and struck the back of the 2010 Chrysler.

The driver and three passengers of the 2010 Chrysler were transported to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth to be treated for their injuries. Two of the three passengers were children.

The driver of the 2016 Chrysler was identified as a 47-year-old woman named Johnnie Comeaux. She was taken to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth where she was later pronounced dead.

UPDATE: The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2010 Chrysler passenger car was traveling west in the outside lane when for an unknown reason, the driver of a 2016 Chrysler passenger car failed to control their speed and struck the back of the vehicle. 

The driver of the 2010 Chrysler and three passengers were transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment. The passengers included two children.

The driver of the 2016 Chrysler, identified as 47-year-old Johnnie Comeaux, was pronounced deceased at St. Elizabeth Hospital.

There is no additional information available for release at this time.
