BENTON, La. – A Benton man died while a woman and child survived a house fire early Monday morning in Benton. The fire was reported around 5:45 a.m. in the 500 block of Oak Ridge Drive. Benton Fire District No. 4 firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke and reports of individuals trapped inside. Firefighters immediately began search and rescue operations, successfully removing a man. Live-saving measures were initiated; however, the man did not survive. A woman and child escaped before fire crews arrived. Both were injured and taken by Bossier Parish EMS to a local hospital for treatment. The cause of the fire is under investigation by BFD4 fire investigators, in coordination with law enforcement and the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal.
