Jasper Police say a woman went to jail Sunday night after leading officers in a high speed pursuit that ended with a crash, and it was then that officers discovered that she had young children in the vehicle.
According to Lieutenant Garrett Foster, it started shortly before 9:00 when Officer Bear Averhart tried to stop the driver of a 2003 Dodge pickup truck for speeding on West Houston Street. However, Foster said the driver, later identified as 33-year-old Kelli Leigh Moore, of Jasper, began fleeing from the officer.
Foster said at one point Moore was driving in excess of 100 miles-per-hour on North Main Street.
The pursuit ended when Moore lost control and wrecked the truck while trying to make a curve on County Road 123 where West Martin Luther King (Farm to Market Road 2800) ended.
Moore has been charged with Evading Arrest or Detention with a Motor Vehicle and Child Endangerment. Her bond has been set at a total of $150,000.00 and as of Monday she remained in the Jasper County Jail.
