Vidor PD Officer, Formerly With Newton Co SO, Has Died in his Home

A former Newton County Sheriff’s Department deputy, who most recently worked for the Vidor Police Department, has died. Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll announced Wednesday that Officer Chris Berry was found deceased in his home by his wife.

Chief Carroll noted that Berry had been recovering from Coronavirus, but there’s no word on whether his death was directly or indirectly related to the illness.

According to Carroll, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the circumstances of his death, and an autopsy is being performed.

Berry had been in law enforcement for three decades, and he went to work at Vidor PD in August of last year.

It is with deep sorrow that the Vidor Police Department announces the passing Officer Chris Berry. Officer Berry was recovering from a Covid related illness when he was found by his wife deceased at his residence. The Vidor Police Department is currently awaiting results from the Medical Examiner as to cause of death. The death is being investigated by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Officer Berry was a 30 Year Law Enforcement Veteran that had served the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Pinehurst Police Department, Newton County Sheriff’s Office and most recently the Vidor Police Department. Officer Berry joined the Vidor Police Department in August 2021.
