The Texas Department of Public Safety says Sherwood Wagner, a 60-year-old resident of Orange, is dead following an auto-pedestrian accident that occurred on Thursday evening in the south end of Newton County.

Emergency crews responded at about 8:30 to Highway 62 in a small corner of the county between Buna and Mauriceville, when it was reported that the accident had occurred.

DPS Sergeant Shana Clark said that Mitchell Ames, 43, of the Call Community, was driving westbound in a 2018 Toyota pickup truck when he struck Wagner, who was walking in the middle of the highway.
